What were your initial feelings after watching the film?

I was saddened and angered after watching the film. I was saddened by the stories of the older adults who had been forced to hide their sexuality and gender identity for fear of discrimination and rejection. I was angered by the fact that these individuals had been denied the opportunity to live their lives authentically and to have the same rights and protections as everyone else.

What was most surprising to you about the stories or people in the film?

I was surprised by the resilience and strength of the individuals in the film. Despite the challenges they had faced, they had all found ways to live their lives with dignity and pride. They were also incredibly generous with their time and stories, and they were eager to share their experiences with others.

As social workers, how can we better serve this population?

As social workers, we can better serve this population by:

• Challenging the stigma and discrimination that older adults face because of their sexuality or gender identity. We can do this by educating our colleagues, clients, and the public about the challenges that older adults in the LGBTQ+ community face. We can also advocate for policies that protect the rights of older adults in the LGBTQ+ community.
• Providing support and resources to older adults in the LGBTQ+ community. This can include providing counseling, case management, and financial assistance. We can also connect older adults in the LGBTQ+ community with peer support groups and other resources.
• Advocating for the inclusion of older adults in the LGBTQ+ community in research and policy discussions. Older adults in the LGBTQ+ community are often overlooked in research and policy discussions. By advocating for their inclusion, we can ensure that their needs are met and that they have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives.

I believe that by taking these steps, we can help to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for older adults in the LGBTQ+ community.

In addition to the above, I would also suggest that social workers:

• Become familiar with the history of the LGBTQ+ community and the challenges that older adults in this community have faced. This will help social workers to better understand the experiences of their clients and to provide them with the most appropriate supports.
• Be aware of the resources that are available to older adults in the LGBTQ+ community. This includes both formal and informal resources, such as support groups, counseling services, and legal assistance.
• Be an ally to older adults in the LGBTQ+ community. This means speaking out against discrimination and advocating for their rights. It also means being respectful of their identities and experiences.

I believe that by taking these steps, social workers can make a real difference in the lives of older adults in the LGBTQ+ community.
