Artificial intelligence (AI) and related technologies are increasingly prevalent in business and society, and are beginning to be applied to healthcare. These technologies have the potential to transform many aspects of patient care, as well as administrative process within provider, payer and pharmaceutical organizations. AI programs are applied to practices such as diagnosis processes, treatment protocol development, drug development, personalized medicine, and patient monitoring and care. AI algorithms can also be used to analyze large amounts of data through electronic health records for disease prevention and diagnosis. Advantages of AI in healthcare include: improved accessibility, early diagnosis, increased speed and reduced costs, and enhanced human abilities and mental health support. But it has its drawbacks: training complications – AI technologies needs to be extensively trained with curated data sets in order to perform as expected.
