He argues that we need to move away from a focus on individual patients and towards a focus on populations. This means understanding the factors that affect health and illness at a population level, and developing interventions that can improve health outcomes for everyone.

In order to make informed decisions on nursing practice and patient outcomes on a global basis, we need to be aware of the following:

• The different healthcare systems that exist around the world.
• The different cultural and social factors that influence health and illness.
• The different economic and political factors that influence healthcare policy.
• The latest research on evidence-based practice.

We also need to be able to critically appraise research evidence and apply it to our own practice. This means being able to understand the strengths and weaknesses of different studies, and being able to make judgments about the applicability of the findings to our own setting.

In my upcoming practicum experience, I will apply what I have learned in NR506 to make informed decisions on nursing practice and patient outcomes in the following ways:

• I will gather information about the healthcare system in the setting where I am placed.
