Social bonding theory argues that those persons who have strong and abiding attachments to conventional society [in the form of attachments, involvement, investment, and belief] are less likely to deviate than persons who have weak or shallow bonds. Hirsch assumes in his social bond theory that humans have a natural tendency to delinquency [Hirschi Travis (1969): causes of delinquency]. According to him, conformity is generated by social control. He distinguishes four different forms of social bonds and their influence on social control: attachment, commitment, involvement, and belief. Hirschi assumes that the stronger the degree of social control and the denser the network of social bonds are, the more likely people are to behave in accordance with standards.
