Javonni was walking down the street with a sense of purpose. He had just stolen some food and was thrilled – it was his biggest score yet. But his joy quickly turned to dread as he heard the sound of sirens and saw flashing lights coming towards him. His heart sank, knowing that there was no escape from this situation; his cover had been blown, 45 minutes ago by a cop.

He’d heard stories about how bad things could get when caught in such circumstances; he knew there would be consequences for his actions but wasn’t sure if they would be severe enough to prevent him from ever making it out alive. The officer approached Javonni cautiously, eyes narrowed in suspicion as he asked for an explanation for why he had been running away from the scene earlier.

Although fear coursed through Javonni’s veins like ice water, something else began to take shape inside of him too – a feeling that made him stand tall despite the odds being against him; black resistance. As hard as it sometimes seemed living in New York City where poverty and crime were rampant, Javonni knew that he was part of something bigger than himself – a community struggling for justice and equality every day even when facing impossible odds.

The officer eventually let Javonni go with only a stern warning not to do anything like this again, but even then Javonni felt proud: proud not only because he managed to avoid getting arrested but also because despite everything around him trying to bring him down, he still had the courage to fight back against what seemed like an inevitable outcome.

From that moment on, Javonni vowed never again to allow himself or anyone else in his community succumb victimization without putting up a fight – no matter how hopeless things may seem millions will rise together until justice is served.
