How technological advancements and changes may affect how we can work to find solutions

Chapter 9, “Technology,” in your textbook discusses how technological advancements and changes may affect how we can work to find solutions for the global threats discussed so far. Technological advances can and do affect development in positive and negative ways.

Besides biotechnology, identify one technology that has the greatest potential positive effect on food security. Discuss any potential negative uses of that technology. Do the benefits of these technologies outweigh the potential negative consequences they have on food security? Why or why not?

Review the posts of your classmates and respond to at least one other post, offering a substantive comment on that classmate’s position. (classmate post is below)

Hello Professor and class, I hope everyone is doing well.
Aside from biotechnology, genetic engineering has shown the potential to affect food security positively. Genetic engineering involves changing DNA for tiny organisms such as plants, animals, and certain bacteria. Genetic engineering, also called GMO’s or genetically modified organisms, allows scientists to use genes from plants and animals and then transfer them to another. Next, genetic engineering has its positive and negative feedback. For example, some of the benefits of genetic engineering with food could result in more nutritious food, foods that taste better, to name a few. Also, genetic engineering in respect to food could result in fewer pesticides protecting the crop from insects and bacteria and shows that animals and plants grow faster from this process, thus providing more food, resulting in food security for many. While genetic engineering sounds like a positive way forward for food security, it does come with potential drawbacks. According to Medline Plus, genetically modified foods could cause allergens or toxic reactions by people who consume them. In addition, Medline Plus states that modifying food genes could also result in harmful genetic changes by accidentally transferring genes to a plant or animal that it is not intended for, leading to foods not being as nutritious or more harmful than without the changes. Last, we have all heard of GMOs and primarily negative things; however, according to Medline Plus, the food and drug administration, EPA, and the USDA have implemented processes to ensure that no genetically engineered foods will be unsafe for human consumption. In my opinion, this needs to happen for the rest of us to feel better about consuming foods with GMOs. (Medline Plus,1).

contrast, progressivism dismisses this suspicion of states as being unitary reasonable specialists, rather seeing sanction as a result of homegrown governmental issues. In this view, homegrown political cycles and constrains lead states to focus on global deals. This view accounts all the more unequivocally for the pretended by IOs, NGOs, other strain gatherings and the overall set of laws of a state. While like objective institutionalism in the significance it accords to collaboration and organizations, its attention on homegrown political, financial and legitimate tensions features all the more obviously the capacity of people and private gatherings to be key entertainers in global legislative issues.

Notwithstanding, even inside this liberal view standards are viewed as a superstructure over a material base, serving a regulative capacity. The previously mentioned speculations depend principally on instrumental inspirations, utilizing social models in light of utility expansion. While representing such instrumental conduct, constructivist researchers go past it to feature shared standards and culture, seeing states as friendly creatures rather than absolutely judicious ones. Constructivists feature the social setting of shared abstract understandings and standards that assist with comprising state characters and jobs, while dismissing the chance of unbiasedly resolved state interests. This a methodology in light of two suppositions: right off the bat, that the setting in which entertainers work is social as well as material, and besides that this climate can assist with molding entertainers’ understandings of their inclinations. Social settings are consequently ready to give material constructions significance, and entertainers’ inclinations and inclinations are inferred and modified through friendly association.

Constructivist clarifications for deal endorsement in this way frequently center around global prevalent difficulties, where entertainers are associated to find a place with accepted practices and friend gatherings. There are different sides to this constructivist contention. The first sees state acting in quite a while that work on their social endorsement by peers or the worldwide local area all in all, thus hope to acquire non-material prizes. The subsequent case is that states might act to keep away from social slander, which is ‘genuine or seen uneasiness over (potential or real) humiliation and seclusion’, and in this way to abstain from avoiding, disgracing and a deficiency of status. This logical qualification among positive and negative purposes behind acting is valuable to assess whether prizes or congruity are critical inspirations for approval.

Two wide constructivist sees clarifying common freedoms arrangement sanction through an attention on socialization have been indicated by Checkel (2005). Type I socialization sees specialists embrace jobs that th
