Review the five competencies of leadership (chapter 1). Describe in your post what your process is or will be to meet the competency of “leading yourself”. In addition, set a reasonable, small, self-care goal that you can accomplish every week for yourself for the next 7 weeks. Post your self-care goal on the discussion board thread this week. Please note: You will follow up with a progress report about meeting your self-care goal at week three and with a final post at the conclusion of the course. These self-care posts are part of your discussion board grade.

The five competencies of leadership are:

1. Leading yourself
2. Inspiring a shared vision
3. Enabling others to act
4. Modeling the way
5. Challenging the process

The competency of “leading yourself” is about being self-aware, self-managing, and self-motivating. It is about taking care of yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally so that you can be your best self as a leader.

Here are some things I can do to meet the competency of “leading myself”:

• Set regular self-care practices. This could include things like getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, exercising regularly, and practicing relaxation techniques.
• Take time for myself each day. This could mean reading, taking a walk, or spending time with loved ones.
• Be mindful of my thoughts and emotions. I want to be aware of how I am feeling and why I am feeling that way.
• Challenge myself to grow and learn. I want to be constantly learning and growing as a person and as a leader.

Here is a self-care goal that I can accomplish every week for the next 7 weeks:

• I will go for a walk for at least 30 minutes each day.

I will follow up with a progress report about meeting my self-care goal at week three and with a final post at the conclusion of the course.

2. Think about your role as a leader – either present or future role. What activities or behaviors or activities could you demonstrate that reflect the seven characteristics (discussed in chapter 2) of the innovative leader?

The seven characteristics of the innovative leader are:

1. Curiosity: The innovative leader is always curious about the world around them and is always looking for new ways to do things.
2. Vision: The innovative leader has a clear vision for the future and is able to inspire others to share that vision.
3. Risk-taking: The innovative leader is willing to take risks and experiment with new ideas.
4. Resilience: The innovative leader is able to bounce back from setbacks and failures.
5. Communication: The innovative leader is able to communicate their ideas effectively to others.
6. Collaboration: The innovative leader is able to build relationships and collaborate with others.
7. Empowerment: The innovative leader empowers others to take ownership and responsibility for their work.

Here are some activities or behaviors that I could demonstrate that reflect these characteristics:

• Ask questions and seek out new information.
• **Share my ideas with others and get their feedback.
• **Be willing to try new things and take risks.
• **Learn from my mistakes and setbacks.
• **Communicate my ideas clearly and concisely.
• **Build relationships with others and collaborate on projects.
• Empower others to take ownership of their work.

I believe that these characteristics are essential for any leader who wants to be successful in today’s ever-changing world. By demonstrating these characteristics, I can create a culture of innovation and creativity within my organization.
