A. Internal citations – This is not just a separate section; rather, referencing should occur throughout the
presentation via parenthetical citations anytime you paraphrase, make direct quotes, or use visual components
from other sources. Please be sure to cite any language, images, videos, etc. in the presentation that should
be cited.
B. Reference Slide – Your paper should also have a final reference slide listing 5-10 credible sources

Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), referred to previously as spastic or nervous colon, and spastic bowel, is a common disorder that affects the large intestine. The term was used to categorize people who developed symptoms of diarrhea, abdominal pain, and constipation, but where no well-recognized infective cause could be found. Early theories suggested the irritable bowel was caused by a psychosomatic or mental disorder. Signs and symptoms include cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, and diarrhea or constipation, or both. IBS is a chronic condition that you will need to manage long term. While the causes of IBS are still unknown, it is believed that the entire gut-brain axis is affected. No specific laboratory or imaging tests can diagnose irritable bowel syndrome. Diagnosis should be based on symptoms. A number of treatments have been found to be effective, including fiber, talk therapy, antispasmodic and antidepressant medication, and peppermint oil.
