JTAG
 was basically a group formed to create a common standard for the manufacturing of Integrated Circuits (ICs). The result was the IEEE 1149.1 standard. The standard popularly became known as the JTAG standard, or only JTAG, and was used extensively with boundary scan. Boundary scan is another name for the JTAG standard.To understand it more clearly, consider a situation where a number of ICs, all produced by different companies, are used in a printed circuit board. Now, to implement such a system, there has to be some feasible way to test all the individual ICs.
