My learning throughout the lifespan development course has been an invaluable experience that I will use to guide my knowledge and skills as an educator. Over the duration of this course, I have gained a greater understanding of how evidence-based strategies can be used effectively in order to facilitate intervention and instructional supports for developing academic skills in students. There are five key points that stand out to me as most relevant when considering how best to apply this knowledge:

1) Utilizing research-focused analysis: It is important to review available research before attempting any form of intervention or instruction for student learning. This allows for a more informed approach, helping educators tailor their plans based on what is known about the subject matter (Grossman et al., 2017).

2) Creating positive learning environments: Positive learning environments are essential for student engagement and success (Turner et al., 2019). Educators should strive to maintain a supportive atmosphere where mistakes can be discussed openly without judgement so students feel safe taking risks and challenging themselves.

3) Building relationships with students: Establishing trust between teachers and students is vital in order for effective teaching methods to take place (Lai & O’Connor, 2018). By getting to know each student’s personal interests, background, strengths/weaknesses, educators can create individualized approaches that allow them better meet their needs.

4) Encouraging autonomy within learners: Providing age-appropriate autonomy within tasks encourages independent problem solving among learners (Tillmann & Ludolph-Donovan, 2018). This helps foster higher levels of achievement while also building confidence among learners by validating their unique perspectives.

5) Continuous monitoring of progress: Progress monitoring should occur regularly with all forms of instruction/intervention so changes/adjustments can be made if needed (Van Dyk et al., 2019). This practice enables educators track individual growth over time which can help inform further decisions related future instruction plans.

Overall, these five points serve as valuable reminders when creating evidence-based strategies for introducing interventions and instructional supports geared towards developing academic skills in students. Through applying these ideas into my own instructional practices moving forward, I hope to become a more efficient educator who puts emphasis on both strong interpersonal relationships as well as provide support which promotes learner autonomy.
