Other nations are always trying to make alliances with one another to create a whole sense that they want to be “friendly nations”. That is not the case because life is all about the survival of the fittest, not to just get by. He is trying to describe basically that the nation is starting to finally make a presence when discussing a great nation around the world. There is a sense of doubt coming from that making alliances with one another will not make anything better and instead eventually make it worse in the long run when a dispute happens. Common Interest is all in everyone’s head and eventually it will go down the drain when settling something. Timing was key to give this speech out because if he had given this speech earlier, like in his second term, he would not have been taken more seriously.
