The length of your original myth must be at least 2 pages. When you write your original myth, there are many guidelines to keep in mind.

        Names of characters, locations, and the development of the myth must be original. It is acceptable to use existing place names if you are writing about a particular culture. You may not use the names of pre-existing mythic figures.

        If you consult sources (including our course texts), they must be identified on a Works Cited page. Sources are not required for this creative, original myth.

        Remember that a myth is a culture’s way of explaining the unexplainable. Most myths will focus on one natural phenomenon or human characteristic. Be sure that your myth has a purpose.

        It is easiest to write a myth when you identify it as a creation, hero, fertility, place or object myth.

        Make use of strong sensory imagery. This will enhance the myth.

        Share your myth with a friend who will use a critical eye. Have you answered questions appropriately, and avoided loose ends in your myth telling?
