My Philosophy of Nursing Practice Paper
Philosophy is about developing and expressing a set of values, beliefs, and principles that guide one’s actions. My philosophy of nursing practice is grounded in the belief that all persons have an inherent right to quality care, respect for their autonomy, choice, dignity, and privacy. I believe it is my responsibility as a nurse to provide patient-centered care through collaboration with patients and their families. This includes creating an individualized plan of care that promotes self-management skills within a safe environment while respecting cultural diversity. Additionally, I strive to be an advocate for social justice by working collaboratively with other health professionals in order to ensure patients are treated equitably regardless of gender, race/ethnicity or socioeconomic status.

As a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) prepared nurse leader I recognize the importance of evidence-based practice (EBP). EBP involves assimilating research findings into clinical decision making in order to maximize positive outcomes for patients. As such, I am committed to using my knowledge base from advanced courses on research utilization as well as continuing education opportunities to become proficient in incorporating EBP strategies into my daily practice which will aid me in providing optimal care for each patient. Furthermore, this model allows me to remain at the forefront by staying abreast with current developments within healthcare so that I can utilize best practices when managing various aspects related to patient safety including but not limited: medication management; infection control measures; and compliance with regulatory standards established by The Joint Commission and other governing bodies.

In addition to promoting improvements across multiple healthcare systems through implementation of evidence-based practices; another component fundamental component included within my philosophy is advocacy for social change. Social disparities exist throughout our society placing certain individuals at risk due lack access or resources necessary attain quality medical treatment (Kohn & Corrigan 2004). In today’s climate it has never been more important than now tackle these issues head on so everyone can benefit from advances made within the healthcare sector regardless where they live or who they are economically disadvantaged populations can receive adequate coverage under Medicaid expansion laws already enacted in many states (Kaiser Family Foundation 2018). Therefore advocating policies aimed increasing access services while reducing cost associated health insurance premiums should be supported since doing so could potentially improve outcomes throughout entire population thereby improving overall public health status nation wide..

Overall, my philosophy operating principle guiding practice would summarized follows: “Acknowledge every person’s worth value inherent humanity striving meet them at point need through compassionate patient centered care while simultaneously promoting advancements across multiple facets healthcare system via utilization evidence based practices support initiatives ensuring equitable provision services all members society.”
