Piaget’s four stages of intellectual (or cognitive) development are:
● Sensorimotor. Birth through ages 18-24 months.
● Preoperational. Toddlerhood (18-24 months) through early childhood (age 7)
● Concrete operational. Ages 7 to 11.
● Formal operational. Adolescence through adulthood.

Object permanence involves understanding that items and people still exist even when you can’t see or hear them. this concept was discovered by child psychologist Jean Piaget and is an important milestone in a baby`s brain development. It requires the ability to form a mental representation (i.e. a schema) of the object. For example, if you place a toy under a blanket, the child who has achieved object permanence knows it is there and can actively seek it. Egocentrism, the cognitive shortcomings that underlie the failure, in both children and adults, to recognize the idiosyncratic nature of one`s knowledge or the subjective nature of one`s perceptions. For example, if a child wants very much for something to happen, and it does, the child believes he or she caused it to happen.
