This paper will has to be at least 5 pages, double-spaced with 1” margins in APA format with at least 12 cited sources. Ensure that proper grammar and spelling are used and that the writing flows well and that the sections are in an organized, sensical order.
The paper is a research project where you will write about a hypothetical outbreak of a real zoonotic disease. The zoonotic disease in this outbreak is leptospirosis and the setting can either be a vet clinic, pet store, or humane shelter. The infected animals MUST be common pet animals, such as cats or dogs. You write about how this disease manifests in the community, how you get involved (SPECIFICALLY from the perspective of veterinary professional).
The paper must include all of these LABELED sections (I will do the title page myself):

THE ABSTRACT; a summary of the key points of research, which includes the research topic, research questions, participants, methods, results, data analysis, and conclusions, and can also contain possible implications of your research and future work you see connected with your findings. It should be a single paragraph double-spaced between a maximum of 150-250 words.

THE INTRODUCTION; make brief introductory statement(s) such as the topic sentence and give the reader the proper background information to familiarize them.

THE LOCATION; it must be a real place so that you can include climate, terrain, geography/topography and other characteristics that might affect the lifecycle/transmission of your zoonotic agent. It should be in a tropical or sub-tropical area since leptospirosis is more common in those places; “Leptospirosis is found in countries around the world. It is most common in temperate or tropical climate regions that include South and Southeast Asia, Oceania, the Caribbean, parts of sub-Saharan Africa, and parts of Latin America.”

THE INHABITANTS; there has to be at least 6 people affected. The people must all be characterized according to race, gender, type and place of employment, where they live, age, contact with animals, others in the home; any and all factors which might affect the transmission of leptospirosis. You must include the environmental components that affect the inhabitants of your population – both those who have become ill and those who might be at risk.

THE TIMELINE; did people show up to the hospital? Did they bring their pets to the clinic and casually remark family members were sick? Were large numbers of wildlife reported ill in your specified geographic location? In what time frame did this occur? What is just one person at first, then three, then another eight? This will be the recognition of similar illness within your population that is outside the norm however you must specify how the problem was detected.

THE DATA COLLECTION; Was there a questionnaire filled out by all involved? What kind of questions did it have on it? What data was collected? Numbers affected? Numbers exposed? Common areas of exposure? Timeline? Symptoms? Other information?

THE INCIDENCE AND PREVALANCE; You have specified some system by which you were able to characterize the problem; now you need to actually characterize the problem. Use the collected data and organize it into a clear table/chart. Perform descriptive epidemiology—this is where you organize and summarize the health-related data according to time, place, and person.

THE HYPOTHESIS; Develop and evaluate an hypothesis as to the cause of the problem(s). The requirement for this will not be strict but you do need to state the scientific reason why you have decided on the source.

THE ADDITIONAL STUDIES; even when your analytic study identifies an association between exposure and a disease, you often will need to refine your hypotheses. Sometimes you will need to obtain more specific exposure histories or a more specific control group. This is where you would process samples in the lab; what tests did you run and what were your results? Did you perform trace-back investigations? Did you conduct any additional tests? Which ones and why? What were the results? Did you assess environmental health in any way? How?

Control and prevention; How did you educate the target audience? Were there any regulations that resulted as a consequence of this outbreak? Were you involved in the policy-making that led to these regulations? If so, how?

THE MONITORING; what monitoring system was put in place? What was the lasting impact on those involved and the community? Did the interventions need to be changed? If so, how? To whom/what agencies did you communicate your findings?

THE CITATIONS; this is where your scientific references should be listed using APA format.
