Security architecture is the design artifacts that describe how the security controls are positioned and how they relate to the overall systems architecture. These controls serve the purpose to maintain the system’s quality attributes such as confidentiality, integrity and availability. Confidentiality, integrity, and availability are considered the three most important components of security. Confidentiality is the security principle that controls access to information. It is designed to ensure the wrong people cannot gain access to sensitive information while ensuring the right people can access it. An example of a method used to ensure confidentiality is the use of data encryption. Confidentiality, integrity, and availability [the C.I.A security triangle], is an important security concept because all security control, mechanisms, and safeguards are implemented to provide one or more of these protection types. This triad is the basis for creating a holistic security plan to protect all of your organization’s critical and sensitive assets.
