We are a unique individual with thoughts, emotions and behaviors independent of our family, friends and coworkers. You have the ability to grow, change, thrive, and set goals for yourself. You developed these abilities, strengths, and knowledge over your lifetime. A family`s cultural values shape the development of its child`s self-concept. Culture shapes how we each see ourselves and others. Young children learn and absorb the stories told to them that often emphasize a family`s values and affect a child`s self-concept. Cultural background gives children a sense of who they are.
