The couple in this case study is struggling with trust and effective communication. They are also having a hard time understanding each other's needs. This is causing a lot of conflict and stress in their relationship.
Short-Term Goals
The short-term goals for this couple are to:
- Improve their communication skills. This includes learning how to listen effectively, express their feelings in a healthy way, and resolve conflict constructively.
- Increase their trust in each other. This includes rebuilding trust that has been broken, and learning how to be more supportive and understanding of each other.
- Develop a stronger and more secure relationship. This includes feeling more connected to each other, and being able to rely on each other for support.
- Be able to understand and meet each other's needs. This includes being able to communicate their needs effectively, and being willing to compromise to meet each other's needs.
- Socratic questioning: This involves asking the couple questions to help them identify and challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs about each other and the relationship.
- Collaborative problem-solving: This involves helping the couple to identify and solve problems in a constructive way.
- Communication training: This involves teaching the couple how to communicate effectively with each other.
- Building fondness and admiration: This involves helping the couple to focus on the positive aspects of each other and the relationship.
- Turning towards instead of away: This involves teaching the couple how to respond to each other's bids for connection in a positive way.
- Maintaining shared meaning: This involves helping the couple to create a shared understanding of the relationship and their values.
