Both the Uniform Athlete Agents Act and SPARTA allow for sports agents to be criminally prosecuted. However, even though these laws exist, stories and allegations surrounding agents providing college athletes with improper benefits continue to persist. The sports agent responsibility and trust act of 2004 (SPARTA) and the uniform athlete agents act (UAAA) have helped protect student-athletes and educational institutions against harmful acts by unscrupulous sports agents. For example, when Standout University of Alabama wide receiver Tyrone broke his leg in three places during a football game against the University of Florida in October 2005, several people came by his hospital room that night. One of them was Jason Goggins, a sports agent from Savage Sports Management, in Newport News.
