Staffing models are related sets of reports, charts and graphs that are used to precisely measure work activity, determine how many labor hours are needed, analyze how employees time is spent and calculate costs. Types of staffing models include: short-term staffing, long-term staffing, succession planning, and strategic staffing. Short-term plan focuses on the immediate needs of the company. For example, if you own a retail store and the holiday shopping season is approaching, your short-term staffing plan will focus on finding additional employees on a seasonal basis. On the other hand, long-term staffing involves taking a proactive approach to your company’s staffing needs. Most long-term staffing plans cover at least one year. Strategic staffing involves a combination of short-term, long-term and succession planning. This plan is the best because it takes the company’s business plans into account to ensure that goals can be met from a talent perspective. Staffing levels are evaluated to determine if there is a staffing surplus or deficit. Training is also included to rectify any gap in skills.
