Professional Communication

The assessment includes two parts. You will analyze professional communication in a team scenario and create a 2- to 3-minute audio response and written script. Keep in mind the concepts of effective communication in teams as you review the scenario and prepare your audio response and script.

What is a script, and how do I write one?

Professional audio recordings require attention to aspects of verbal communication such as vocal tone, variety, pitch, articulation, etc. To create a professional recording, first write a script. You then will have the content to read and can focus on professional delivery.

Review the scenario.
Start with an introduction.
Complete the body of the script by using examples from the interaction between the team members in this scenario and , respond to the questions that follow in a 2-to3 minute audio-based response. Make sure to integrate one source (or more) from the readings and your own personal experiences.
Evaluate three issues faced in the panel discussion presented in the scenario. Discuss effective and ineffective characteristics of team behaviors in the observed scenario. How effectively did this team work together?
What three suggestions do you have for the team to engage in professionalism?
In the observed situation, who do you feel should take leadership? Why? What are the benefits of having leadership on a team? What are the concerns of having leadership on a team? In this situation, what would you do to lead the team?
What three strategies do you have for productivity when working in teams?

In team settings, certain formalities exist and dictate how coworkers interact and communicate with one another. In fostering a more productive and cooperative workspace, teams must prioritize communication strategies. Doing so allows employees to engage and grow within the group. High-quality communications entails active listening, intentional and genuine words, and clarity in how team members vocalize their thoughts and ideas. No matter how productive your team is, there are always ways to be incorporated to take workplace productivity to a whole new level. The best leaders in the business understand the power of ownership. Giving ownership to the team members means nothing but letting them make their own decisions and making them accountable for their work.

Specific and clear goals are the most effective motivators, and will lead to optimum performance, therefore it becomes essential for a leader to understand what motivates each individual within a group (Pettinger, 2007). Motivation is highly personal, and can differ massively across a group, so the leader must adapt how they motivate to suit each individual, this highlights the need for an organisation to implement policies that allow leaders to be flexible in how they reward individuals. Issues arise when goals are not set well, if the goals are ambiguous, unachievable or too easy then the individual will lose motivation (Pettinger, 2007). Once goals have been set it becomes essential for leaders to regularly assess how individuals are progressing towards them, if well then goals should be made more challenging, if they are struggling then the goals should be made easier. Goals also allow for leader to assess how the team are performing, and how their leadership style is functioning with the group, if goals are not being met the leader must adapt how the team interact together or their leadership style to achieve them.
