A distorted thought or cognitive distortion is an exaggerated pattern of thought that is not based on facts. It consequently leads you to view things more negatively than they really are. One of the most common cognitive distortions include polarization. Polarization, or all-or-nothing thinking, is thinking about yourself and the world in an “all-or-nothing” way.
