You will conduct research and write a comparison of 2 artworks. One must be from the Barjeel Collection and one must be from Europe from one of the movements we have studied in class.
Your paper should include the following components:
1. Introduction. Brief history of each artwork you will be discussing (time/place/context in which the work was created; brief information on the artist).
2. Formal (visual) analysis of each work of art using the art elements and design principles. You will get this information from looking at the works of art, taking notes on what you observe and looking back at your class notes.
3. Compare and contrast the works of art. What is similar and what is different?
4. Contextual Analysis: Make connections between the works of art and the time/place/context in which they were created. Why did each artist make the artistic choices they did? Do you think those choices reflect something about the artist (e.g., gender, nationality, age, religion)? You will get this information from reading about the works of art and looking back at your class notes.
5. To conclude the paper, you should say why you find the works significant and artistically appealing. What made you select those particular artworks? Why do you think they are important?
