The organization I have chosen to analyze is the National Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC), a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing support, resources and advocacy for those affected by crime and abuse in the United States. As a nonprofit organization they are categorized as an NGO or non-governmental entity; meaning that their services are provided independent from any government agency or private firm/employer. In terms of organizational structure, NCVC’s management team consists of President & CEO Mai Fernandez along with several directors who oversee operations within various departments including development, communication and training/technical assistance (“Leadership Team” 2021). These Directors then employ staff members who provide research and analysis on topics related to victimization which helps guide policy initiatives aimed towards increasing awareness of crime victims’ rights across America (Mai Fernandez 2021) .
In addition to this management structure, NCVC works closely with partners like the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) who collaborate on projects such as their ‘Victim Services Professional Development Program’ which provides specialized training for law enforcement personnel nationwide (National District Attorneys Association 2020). Thus through understanding how NCVC operates both internally and externally we can gain insight into how they fulfill their mission statement: “to forge a national commitment to help victims of crime rebuild their lives” (NCVC Mission Statement 2021).
