The four categories of family dysfunction that promote delinquent behavior include: family breakup, family conflict, family effectiveness, and family deviance. Family breakup is when the spouses in a marriage have conflict with each other and this conflict can lead to a separation or divorce. Family conflict is when spouses or other family members argue amongst themselves constantly and can lead to dysfunction. Family effectiveness is when the parents don’t properly monitor their children and when a child is not properly monitored they will partake in delinquent behavior because no one is watching them. Family deviance is parents who could possibly have some criminal background and they pass their criminal behavior off to their child. They could teach them how to steal or rob.
