Discuss the importance of anthropometry in product/workplace design.
The term Anthropometry which means in Greek human measure refers to the measurement of the human individual. In the modern world, it considered as the science that defines physical measures of a person’s size, form, and functional capacities. In workplace design, it is used to study the interaction of workers with tasks, tools, machines, vehicles, and personal protective equipment — specially to determine the degree of protection against dangerous exposures. Also, in the work place, the misfit of a heavy equipment cabin to a worker may produce operator blind spots that expose workers on foot to struck-by injuries. Anthropometry is also important in ensuring that the inadequate length or configuration of seatbelt do not affect the post -crash survivability.
