The legacy of American history

The United States of America, “a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal,” began as a slave society. what can rightly be called the “original sin” slavery has left an indelible imprint on our nation`s soul. American culture includes both conservative and liberal elements, scientific and religious competitiveness, political structures, risk taking and free expression, materialist and moral elements. The U.S. is often called a melting pot because its people come from many different backgrounds and cultures, and there are such a wide variety of beliefs, values, and traditions. There is no such thing as the typical American, that is a part of what makes it such an interesting place. Customs vary from region to region and family to family.
