The role of Human Resources Sergeant in the Profession of Arms is essential to the Army. According to The Army White Paper, The Profession of Arms (2010), “the human resources (HR) MOS [military occupational specialty] plays a critical role in providing support and assistance during operations” (p. 8). As HR Sergeants are responsible for personnel actions such as staffing, payroll, administrative services and awards/decorations, they ensure that Soldiers receive all necessary materials and support needed to succeed. Furthermore, by monitoring personnel records they can identify any issues or discrepancies that need to be addressed which allows leaders to make informed decisions regarding their unit’s performance. Finally, HR Sergeants provide guidance on career development matters such as promotions and re-enlistment so that Soldiers can achieve their professional goals.
