The purpose of telehealth training and services is to provide healthcare access to individuals who may not otherwise have the opportunity or ability to seek medical assistance in a traditional setting. Telehealth enables remote consultation with medical professionals and other health practitioners, allowing them to offer care regardless of an individual’s location, socio-economic status or time constraints (Klein et al., 2019). With this technology, clients can receive diagnosis, treatment plans and advice from the comfort of their own homes. It also eliminates geographical barriers such as transportation issues that would prevent some people from being able to visit a physical hospital or clinic (Strawbridge et al., 2018).
Telehealth has been proven effective for both mental health services and more recently for dealing with COVID related issues (Schoenborn et al., 2020; Stahl & Reinhardt 2020). It allows patients to receive the same quality care they would get at in person sessions while reducing time spent waiting in clinics or hospitals.
