There has been growing interests in broadening the role of traditional ergonomist/human factors psychologist to contribute in the field of sustainability. The ergonomics areas are broadly categorized as physical, cognitive, organizational, and environmental ergonomics. They focus on health and wellbeing of from an individual, to community, and to society. With the recent development of emerging technology and science, what areas, and how, the human factors researchers can contribute for a sustainable development (in terms of economy, environment, and human health). I want you to think out of the box. Hints: advanced materials for environmental protection and human well being, mental health, effects of emerging technology, smart city, smart community, green energy, green policy, and industrial revolution 4.0.
Use internet to learn more about this direction of research. Write two paragraphs of your ideas (what and how an ergonomist can play a role). This type of intellectual exercise will be part of your mid-term exam. Since I have provided many practical examples of the theory and methods that we covered in the class, I will give one or two intellectual exercises in the mid-term exam.
