• I was surprised to learn that school counselors are responsible for providing academic support to students. I always thought that their primary role was to provide counseling services to students who are struggling emotionally or behaviorally. However, I learned that school counselors also play a vital role in helping students succeed academically. They do this by providing tutoring, test preparation, and other academic interventions.

  I was also surprised to learn that school counselors are involved in career development. I thought that this was the role of guidance counselors. However, I learned that school counselors also play a role in helping students explore their interests and talents and make informed decisions about their future careers. They do this by providing career counseling, career assessments, and other career development resources.

  I want to learn more about the different levels of supports that school counselors provide to students. I know that they provide individual counseling, group counseling, and classroom guidance. However, I want to learn more about the specific techniques and interventions that they use in each of these settings. I also want to learn more about the different ways that they collaborate with other school staff, such as teachers, administrators, and parents.

Overall, I was very impressed by the breadth and depth of the role of a school counselor. I learned that they play a vital role in the academic and emotional well-being of students. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn more about this important profession.
