The theory of McDonalidization

The McDonaldization Theory of George Ritzer: MacDonaldization is a term used by sociologist George Ritzer in his book The McDonaldization of Society (1993). He explains it occurs when a culture possesses the characteristics of a fast-food restaurant. McDonaldization is a reconceptualization of rationalization, or moving from tradition to rational modes of thought, and scientific management. Ritzer sees the fast-food restaurant as having become a more representative contemporary paradigm. While McDonaldization has resulted in improved profits and an increased availability of various goods and services to more people worldwide, it has also reduced the variety of goods available in the marketplace while rendering available product uniform, generic, and bland.
