Reflect: The U.S. Constitution is the cornerstone of our federal government. The Constitution establishes a basic operational framework that enables the three branches of government—executive, legislative, and judicial—to interact and function as a unit. Embedded in this operational framework are two key principles: separation of powers and a system of checks and balances. Think about how these branches interact and the importance of these checks and balances and the separation of powers.
Write: In your initial post, please fully and directly respond to the following:
· Explain the difference between checks and balances and the separation of powers and explain why they are important to our democracy.
· Discuss one recent real-world example of checks and balances and explain the impact of it.
· Discuss one recent real-world example of balance of power and explain the impact of it.
· Discuss one recent real-world example of how the Constitution directly protects individual and group rights.
Checks and balances refer to the system of checks and balances put in place by the U.S. Constitution, which allows each branch of government—executive, legislative, and judicial—to interact with one another for oversight purposes. Checks and balances ensure that no one branch holds too much power over the others since each has an equal amount of power to check or balance out any attempted abuse from other branches (Alexander et al., 2020). This system also ensures that no single individual or group can monopolize a certain kind of governmental decision-making.
Separation of powers refers to the separation of governmental powers among three distinct branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. This system seeks to prevent any single branch from having too much authority by allocating different functions between them (Alexander et al., 2020). Each branch is given particular responsibilities in order to prevent any one part from becoming too powerful; however they are still able to work together when needed as a unified whole.
Both checks and balances and separation of powers are essential components in our democracy as they help protect citizens’ rights under the law while ensuring that all branches remain held accountable for their actions. These concepts allow us as citizens to be confident in knowing that our government operates fairly through a complex network consisting multiple interdependent parts that work together for the greater good (Alexander et al., 2020). Without either concept present there would be nothing stopping one individual or group from taking control over all aspects of governing thus creating an imbalance in power between those with authority and those without it.
One recent real-world example demonstrating both concepts occurred during President Trump’s impeachment proceedings where Congress had passed two charges against him based on accusations stemming from his interactions with Ukraine (CNN 2019). Upon receiving these charges, Chief Justice John Roberts then presided over Trump’s Senate trial hearing which allowed legislators within Congress an opportunity review witnesses’ testimonies while considering evidence presented by both sides before reaching their verdicts (CNN 2019). This was an example of how both checks & balances as well as separation of powers worked hand-in-hand due its allowance for multiple perspectives playing into decisions made concerning this situation while maintaining accountability among each respective party involved throughout its entirety regardless if their desired outcome cametrue or not.( CNN 2019; Alexander et al., 2020)

trees in windI recollect around evening time glancing through the huge glass windows of our front room at the tremendous pine trees and douglas fir trees, which brushed against our white fence. The trees would influence once in a while fiercely in the breeze, as it was basic in Seattle around evening time. I would watch the trees move, accepting to see many alarming and unusual shapes framing in obscurity, as though the trees were alive in a cognizant manner. The trees would move into the kinds of beasts my creative mind conjured up. I would inform my mom concerning the shapes and structures, yet as a typical mother would do, she attempted to quiet me down rather than cooperate with my ghostly obsession.
Another sharp early memory of mine was the point at which I analyzed my body. I was interested, as most kids may be, about the surface and type of the body we are given during childbirth. Since the beginning, I had four activities: two open heart medical procedures, and two hernia medical procedures. I would feel my scars, which scale up my chest and travel close to my crotch as though they were scenes, consumed into my skin until age would blur them away. Other than scars, I would savor over the littlest of points of interest about my eyes, which have hazel lines dashing away from the understudies. I would look at my life state through my eyes: I could perceive how I was all in all through them. My hands were likewise a state of interest for me: my left hand is altogether littler than my correct hand in light of medical procedures. Looking at them was and still is somewhat of a fixation of mine.
