Human rights are at the forefront of international politics these days. Since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, the world`s values have changed. Preferential trade agreements (PTAs) are treaties that remove barriers to trade and set rules for international commerce between two countries or among a small group of countries. Governments most definitely should consider human rights if you are going to engage in preferential trading rights (that is, lowering tariffs, etc.). Protecting human rights is an important part of foreign policy for many. It can improve the human rights policies of the ones they are trading with. It is also the moral thing to do when engaging in trade.
