Compare and contrast the three colonial regions (social, political, cultural, and economic) which were the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies. In your diagram, list how they were different, and in the overlapping areas show how they may have been similar. Under the diagram, write a paragraph explaining ways that you feel these regions still reflect their roots today.

By the 1700’s, the American colonies grew into three distinct regions. The New England, Middle, and Southern regions each had different geographical and cultural characteristics that determined the development of their economy, society, and relationships to each other. The New England, Middle, and Southern colonies had multiple differences, but also multiple similarities. The main differences were where they were settled, who they were and their purpose for settling. The main similarities were religion, freedom and slavery/indentured servants. The southern colonies relied on growing crops such as sugarcane, rice, Cotton, tobacco, and indigo. The southern colonists had resources including good farmland and lumber. the major difference between new England and middle colonies was the quality of land.
