Video games have become increasingly popular among children in recent years, but their impact on young people is still a subject of debate. While there are some potential benefits to playing video games such as improved hand-eye coordination and problem solving skills (Feng et al., 2017), a growing body of evidence suggests that excessive game playing can lead to negative outcomes for children. These include decreased physical activity (Müller & Wölfling, 2018) increased risk for obesity and other health issues due to sedentary behavior (Gentile et al., 2014), sleep disturbances (Xu et al., 2019) and social isolation due to the shift from outside activities with peers to inside ones with digital devices or gaming consuls (Kuss & Griffiths, 2012).

In addition, certain types of violent video games have been linked with aggressive thoughts and behaviors in players as well as desensitization towards violence which could lead to long term psychological damage if left unchecked (Anderson et al., 2010). Finally , research has also shown that prolonged exposure can cause attention problems , difficulty concentrating , poor academic performance etc . (Coenen et al., 2016)

Therefore it is important for parents and guardians to be aware of these risks when supervising their children’s use of video games – especially those involving explicit content– so they do not fall prey to any potential negative consequences associated with this form of entertainment.
