Welfare reform, environmental justice

Select one controversial issue (e.g., abortion, teen pregnancy, Welfare reform, environmental justice, etc.) and do a little research to learn more about the topic. Always start with the text and then go to the Internet and search academic sources, in other words NOT Wikipedia or similar sites. Internet sources from non-profit, bi-partisan, government agencies are fine. Of course, sources from peer-reviewed academic journals are always fine.

Take a side in the controversy, and then write a paper (at least 850 words in length) supporting your selected side.

Abortion is an issue that has ethical, moral, and religious considerations for many people, making it a topic that impacts society. Abortion is a medical or surgical procedure that deliberately ends a pregnancy before an embryo or fetus is born. Opponents of abortion typically object to the practice for religious or ethical reasons, contending that the procedure constitutes the cruel termination of what they consider to be a viable human life. Those who support a woman`s right to choose an abortion argue that access to safe, legal abortions is a human right (for example, in Roe v. Wade 1973 case). Despite obvious individual exceptions such as suicidality accompanying physical or mental illness, human life universally acts to sustain itself. Because we act to preserve our own lives, reciprocity holds that it is therefore wrong to take the lives of innocent others. In the context of abortion, because we ourselves appreciate living, and therefore not having been aborted, we in turn should not take human life through abortion.
