M5 Q2
Is beauty in the eye of the beholder, or are there universal norms for physical attractiveness? Back up your opinion with reasons, and remember that empirical evidence (scientific research) trumps personal experience and anecdotal evidence.
M5 Q3
Sexual behavior and attitudes about sex change over time. What do you think are the biggest changes in sexual attitudes that have happened in our society during your lifetime? Have they been accompanied by changes in behavior?
I am personally motivated by a number of factors, including:
These motivations can be linked to a number of theories of motivation, including:
Empirical research on motivation has also shown that the factors that motivate me are important for overall well-being and performance. For example, a study by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania found that people who are motivated by intrinsic factors, such as learning and growth, are happier and healthier than people who are motivated by extrinsic factors, such as money and status. Another study, conducted by researchers at the University of Michigan, found that people who are more self-determined are more likely to achieve their goals and to be satisfied with their lives.
Is beauty in the eye of the beholder, or are there universal norms for physical attractiveness?
There is no doubt that beauty is to some extent subjective. Different people have different preferences for physical appearance. However, there is also evidence that there are some universal norms for physical attractiveness.
For example, studies have shown that people from different cultures tend to agree on what makes a face attractive. This suggests that there are some objective features that make people more or less attractive.
Some of the features that have been shown to be universally attractive include:
However, it is important to note that these are just general trends. There are many people who do not fit these criteria who are still considered attractive. Ultimately, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
What are the biggest changes in sexual attitudes that have happened in our society during your lifetime? Have they been accompanied by changes in behavior?
The biggest changes in sexual attitudes that have happened in our society during my lifetime include:
These changes in attitudes have been accompanied by changes in behavior. For example, the rate of same-sex marriage has increased significantly in recent years. Additionally, more and more people are cohabiting before marriage, and the average age of first marriage has increased.
However, it is important to note that these changes have not been evenly distributed across society. For example, people of color and LGBTQ+ people are still more likely to experience discrimination and stigma related to their sexuality.
Overall, the changes in sexual attitudes and behavior that have happened in our society during my lifetime have been positive. However, there is still more work to be done to create a society where everyone is free to express their sexuality without fear of discrimination.
