Which TED Talk did you find more interesting? Why? Share at least TWO key points that you took away from the talk.

I found Adam Grant’s TED Talk, “The Surprising Habits of Original Thinkers,” to be more interesting. Grant’s talk is focused on practical advice for how to become more original and creative, while Steven Johnson’s talk, “Where Good Ideas Come From,” is more focused on the history and science of innovation.

Two key points that I took away from Grant’s talk are:

• Originals are more likely to fail than non-originals. This is because they are constantly trying new things and pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
• Originals are more likely to collaborate with others. They understand that they can’t have all the good ideas themselves, and they are open to input from others.

Are there any strategies that you can adopt when it comes to being more of an original/creative thinker? Explain.

Here are some strategies that I can adopt to be more of an original and creative thinker:

• Be open to new ideas and experiences. The more things you are exposed to, the more likely you are to have new and innovative ideas.
• Don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is a natural part of the learning process. The sooner you learn to embrace failure, the sooner you will start to generate more original and creative ideas.
• Collaborate with others. Bouncing ideas off of other people can help you to see things from a new perspective and to come up with more creative solutions.

Do you see yourself as original and creative when it comes to doing research and writing assignments for the purposes of college? Why or why not?

I do not always see myself as original and creative when it comes to doing research and writing assignments for college. This is because I am often limited by the requirements of the assignment and the expectations of my professors. However, I am trying to be more original and creative in my work by:

• Choosing topics that I am passionate about. This makes it easier for me to come up with new and interesting ideas.
• Using a variety of sources. This helps me to get a well-rounded perspective on the topic and to come up with more original insights.
• Experimenting with different writing styles and techniques. This helps me to find ways to communicate my ideas in a more creative and engaging way.

I believe that everyone has the potential to be original and creative. By adopting some of the strategies that I have mentioned above, you can start to generate more innovative ideas and solutions to problems.
