Describe the Use of Food Additives & Their Advantages/Possible Disadvantages
Salt and sugar have been used as additives in foods for many centuries. Both preserve and add flavor to foods. Both have some possible side effects. Salt can cause high blood pressure in those who are sodium-sensitive; sugar can cause dental decay and possible overweight.
Research three food additives. (Salt and sugar have already been explained, so you need to find three others.) Our textbook, 3rd ed. talks about additives on pages 60 -61 pages 48 – 49 (4th ed).
Explain why each of these 3 additives are used in food.
What are some possible concerns are about their use?
